On the 29th of May about 130 brave souls reached the top of
Hvannadalshnúkur - the highest peak in Iceland. The weather was
fantastic, sunny and clear sky as people rejoiced their successful
ascension and enjoyed the magnificent view from the top. This was the
final chapter in a training program called Reach the Top, organized by
Icleandi Mountain Guides in collaboration with
66 North
The members of Reach the Top have been preparing for this goal since last February. They received education about clothing and right nutrition for mountain climbing as well as training in how to use equipment necessary for this kind of climb. The group trained regularly steadily climbing higher and steeper mountains leading to the highest one left -
Hvannadalshnúkur. The hard work through the winter clearly paid off, as was obvious the smiles of happy faces when the mountaineers return down to Sandfell. Not only did this wonderful group of people conquer the mountain, but themselves as well.

Week later on the 5th of June the rest of the group, around 80 people also enjoyed the spectacular view from the top of
Hvannadalshnjúkur in a magnificent weather. Another training group from Iceland Mountain Guides, Fjallkonur consisting only of women is scheduled to the top on 19th of June - suitable since that is the day women in Iceland celebrate the women rights day
