In the Ammassalik area the presence of the great Greenland Icecap is clearly visible alla round in the environment and even in the habits of the people. The deep fjords are dotted with icebergs, steep peaks rise dramatically directly up from the sea or the valley floor, along with an intensity of the light that is unique; all makes for a magnificent ambiance. Day 1: Reykjavík-Tasiilaq fjord
Flight from Reykjavík to Kulusuk in East Greenland. On arrival transfer by boat to Tasiilaq, the administrative centre of the area. We stroll through this quaint little town and head for the bottom of the Tasiilaq fjord where we pitch our tents for the first night in Greenland.
Walking: 2 - 3 hrs

Day 2: The Qortolotoq lakes
Today we head inland for the mountains and the lakes following the lake route along the Qortolotoq lakes that are hidden between the magnificent granite peaks. To the west the spectacular Mittivakkat glacier rises to the sky. Towards evening we find ourselves on the shores of one of the innermost of those lakes in a picture perfect spot for our little camp.
Walking: 7 - 8 hrs

Day 3: The Lakes-Sermelik fjord
We continue our tour in these breathtaking surroundings heading west to the Sermilik fjord over a pass where erratic boulders are lonely remnants from a colder era. We continue along the edge of the Mittivakkat glacier before arriving in a green semi valley where we camp for the night.
Walking: 7 - 8 hrs

Day 4: Sermelik fjord
The amazing beaches of Sermilik fjord is today´s goal as we make our way downhill through the barren granite surfaces where one can detect the direction of the glacier flow and enjoy the low alpine undergrowth. We should savor the superb views over the Sermilik fjord on our way down; magnificent icebergs on the deep blue sea. If weather permits we will camp on the beach for the night enjoying the views over the fjord from our tents.
Walking: 7 - 8 hrs

Day 5: The Hunters path
Having had our share of the spectacular beach views we head back to the mountains along the Sermilik way, the old path of the hunters. The route takes us over a narrow pass and into a magnificent valley surrounded by majestic peaks. We pitch our tents by the lake in the valley and might get a glimpse of the great northern diver, nesting on the lake.
Walking: 7 - 8 hrs

Day 6: Return to Tasiilaq
We are not far from the little town of Tasiilaq and after an easy hike we are back in town. Now we have an opportunity to shower and sleep in a real house this last night in Greenland. Tasiilaq is a quaint little place and we can visit the museum, the church and the local coop or simply enjoyed the ambiance. Night in a guesthouse/hostel.
Walking: 2 - 3 hrs

Day 7: Kulusuk-Reykjavík
Today we head back to Iceland. We set out early and our first leg is a boat journey to Kulusuk. If  we are on time we might have time to take a quick look around this little village of hunters before getting onto the airplane taking us to Reykjavík.
