Jón Gauti Jónsson

Alpine Trekking Guide

Jón Gauti has been one of Icelandic Mountain Guides most skilled guides since soon after the company was founded. The Icelandic nature is Jón Gauti's passion and he has linked this to most of his professional life. He is a certified nurse, but has worked in mountain guiding, outdoors publication and various management positions whithin Icelandic Mountain Guides.

Jón Gauti has written a widely read book in Icelandic on hiking and camping in the Icelandic wilderness and was for some years one of the editors and owners of "Útivera" the only outdoors magazine in Iceland.

Mountaineering and wilderness travel became essential parts of Jón Gauti's life early on when he began climbing with the ÍSALP (The Icelandic Alpine Club) and later with his volunteering for the Reykjavík Air Ground Search and Rescue Team. Within the Rescue Team he specialized in technical mountain rescue and became an instructor in mountaineering, mountain rescue, ice and rock climbing for the Rescue Team, The Icelandic Guide School and the Tourism University of Hólar.

Skiing, mountaineering, hiking or climbing is all within Jón Gauti's playing field both at work and with friends and family.
