Level II Hard Ice Guide exam
The Level II exam covers 3 ½ days and covers all areas of Hard Ice Guiding. The main topics are the same as on the Level I Hard Ice Guide Exam but with considerably harder demands on ability. The examination takes place on a glacier in the Vatnajökull National Park (Skaftafell).
The students are required to have completed a Level I Hard Ice Guide Exam and have 70 days of work experience in guiding on glaciers.
The exam result is communicated to each participant individually. The evaluation takes into account among other things; ability to motivate and instruct, knowledge of the area and ability to entertain and educate guests, route selection, personal and client safety and rescue skills.
A level II guide is able to guide all hard ice glacier walks and ice climbing on glaciers offered by IMG. As a general rule only Level II guides should work unsupervised on glaciers during the winter time.
