Erla Guðný

Erla

Erla was raised in the capital region (Garðabær) but learned to appreciate the outdoors and respect the environment through traveling with her family around Iceland skiing, hiking and picking berries. She ski raced for many years until finishing school at 20 when she quit racing to travel the world and gain different experiences in the outdoors; after guiding on the glaciers in Skaftafell for one summer, she joined IMG as a guide in 2016. In fact she's a long time collaborator with company, having worked 2 summers as a teenager in the packing department preparing food and equipment for the longer tours and expeditions that IMG operates too! Erla does not remember when she decided to become a guide, but she realized early that she wanted to make the mountains and the wilderness her workplace. That is also what got her into studying geology. She graduated in the summer of 2017 with a BSc in Geology.

She likes glaciers a lot, and also playing her trumpet, cooking, eating what she cooks, traveling, recycling, backpacking, tree hugging, rock climbing, and yes she loves skiing. One favorite area in Iceland is the Tröllaskagi peninsula with amazing ski touring from the mountains down to sea level. Another favorite area is Öræfi where the coolest glaciers live.
