  • Tour Description

Lead guide, Leifur Örn, one of Iceland’s most respected avalanche instructor and ski guide.

Objective: Teach and train disciplined methods in evaluation of avalanche risk, decision making and route selection. Companion rescue with beacon, probe and shovel. After the course participants should be able to make sound judgment on snow pack stability and route selection while travelling with peers. They should also be capable of a speedy response and search in the case of a buried partner(s).

The course is held in Akureyri (north Iceland) and we aim to use the ski lifts of Hlíðarfjalla ski area for a speedy access to appropriate terrain. The teaching runs over three days – each being spent half indoors on lectures and half outside.
Participants are required to have skitouring equipment, snow board and snow shoes or a split-board.

Prerequisites: Participants are expected to be capable of skiing off-piste.
