Brecht is originally from Belgium, but has lived in Sweden, Georgia (Caucasus), Germany and the Netherlands. His genuine love for mountains and nature is what motivated him to become a guide. Brecht has worked as a rock climbing/kayak/mtb instructor, a bird guide on ornithological trips and an ornithology researcher at a University and research institutes. This is his second summer with Icelandic Mountain Guides. His hobbies outside of work include birding, photography, and skiing. Troll Peninsula is his favorite place in Iceland but Caucasus (Svaneti) and Greenland are his favorite places in the world. Some of Brecht’s bucket list destinations are Bhutan, Kirgistan, Snow Leopard peaks, Svalbard, Congo-basin and an endless list of other wild, mountainous, and polar destinations.
