Hjalti has lived in Iceland his whole life. He currently resides in Álftanes, a small peninsula close to Reykjavík. Working outside in challenging environments and helping people to experience nature in ways they are not used to and/or are not able to by themselves are what motivated him to become a guide. The summer of 2016 is his first season with the IMG team. Before becoming a guide, Hjalti worked in landscaping, forestry, and other odd jobs. Outside of work, you can find him sea kayaking, hiking, and playing the saxophone in a punk band. Traveling to Antarctica is on his bucket list.
His professional qualifications/experience include:
- Hard Ice I
- Wilderness First Responder
- ISKGA Coastal Sea Kayak guide
- Swiftwater Rescue Technician II
- Adventure Guiding Diploma - Thompson Rivers University/Keilir
