Þorsteinn Cameron

Þorsteinn

Þorsteinn was born in the U.S. and raised in Australia before moving to Iceland. While studying photography in London, he wanted a summer gig that would bring him back to Iceland and the mountains. Becoming a glacier guide for IMG was just the ticket he needed. After working outdoors for a few years, he can't imagine doing anything else.

He began working for IMG as a summer season glacier guide in 2012 and has been working full time since 2014. He has held a variety of positions in the past, including working as a photographer, mountain hut warden, casino manager and being a volunteer on the Icelandic Alpine Club board.

Apart from photography, he spends most of his time climbing. Þorsteinn likes all aspects of climbing; rock, ice, mixed, solid and choss.

Öræfi has found a special place in his heart over the last couple of years, especially in winter. If not in Iceland, he's most probably out and about in the alps or chasing the sun in Spain.

His professional qualifications/experience include:

  • WFR
  • AIMG Glacier 3
  • Mountain Skills Level Two
