Dieter Van Holder

Dieter grew up in Belgium where he attained his bachelor degree in education. After spending some time in the military, he worked as a high school teacher for several years, but every minute of his free time was spent out in the remote and mountainous regions of Europe. Always one for taking initiative, Dieter became very active in the Belgian Alpine clubs, setting up several trekking tours and courses in the European mountain ranges, organizing orienteering & adventure weekends, and teaching workshops on orientation. Snowshoe guiding brought him to Iceland where he met us, and he’s been around ever since.

“Every day holds infinite possibilities. The sheer number of experiences we could have are uncountable, but most of the time we live trapped in loops. Reliving a few days over and over. We envision only a handful of paths laid out ahead of us. We see the same things each day. We respond the same way. We think the same thoughts. Each day a slight variation on the last. I wish to escape that cycle by living a life where we can use our full physical prowess and apply all our mental creativity in interaction with our natural habitat. The outdoors…”
