Ívar Finnbogason

Guide

Ívar Finnbogason - Guide

For years Ivar was the most active ice climber in Iceland, racking up hard ascents and first ascents. He has been with IMG since 2002 on and off and since 2008 full time. Calming down in his „old age “Ivar has turned his attention from climbing and to skiing and ski-touring in the winter and mountain biking in the summer.
Most of his guiding is ski-touring and hiking.

He certainly counts as one of the more experienced guides with IMG when it comes to both his guiding and his personal mountaineering career.

As one of the older guides in our operation he has grown with the company, starting out as a glacier guide, maturing into a leading person in developing and maintaining training standards for mountain- and glacier guides and currently dividing his time between leading the company’s quality and safety work and guiding.

He has been on most of the IMG tours, ski-touring - Vatnajökull expeditions – most hiking trips – mountain biking – over 70 summit of Hvannadalshnúkur – hard Ice Climbing – Gunnbjörn expeditions in Greenland – Mt. Blanc, Mt. Elbrus, Mt. Vinson in Antarctica. Ivar also manages and develops the mountaineering and climbing courses on offer by IMG and still is involved in the training of glacier and mountain guides.

Ívar is fluent in German and is actually famous in Germany as can be seen here: Olli beim Eyjafjallajoekull & Ollis Gletscherwanderung in addition he has appeared on many other international TV shows.

Ívar served on the first technical committee of the Association of Icelandic Mountain Guides (AIMG).
