On this exciting adventure, you visit the 5000-year-old lava tunnel Raufarhólshellir. With only a 30-minute drive from Reykjavík in Reykjavík Excursion's comfortable buses, this is a great choice for those who want to make the most of their days in Iceland.

The lava tunnel is one of the biggest caves that have been discovered in Iceland. The total length of the tunnel is 1360 meters and at its widest, it is 30 meters wide with headroom up to 10 meters high. Inside the cave, you will find beautiful stalactites that formed when the active lava stream flowed through the tunnel some 5200 years ago. Not only that, but during winter you can witness some striking ice sculptures and giant icicles that form inside the entrance of the cave, making the caving experience even more amazing!

This tour includes transfer from Reykjavík, with the option of meeting us at BSÍ Bus Station or getting a pick-up from your hotel or accommodation. The full tour takes approximately 3 hours with 55-60 minutes spent exploring the cave. Your cave guide will lead you roughly 350 meters into the tunnel and teach you about the formation of the cave and the geological history of the region.
