Daytour to the Volcanic Eruption in Geldingadalir
This is the first volcanic eruption in the Reykjanes Peninsula in 800 years and provides a unique opportunity to study and experience the geologic mysteries of the area and is open for all to enjoy!
Our partners from Reykjavik Excursions offer a guided tour of the eruption site in Geldingadalur and Reykjanes Geopark. Your adventure begins with a visit to one of the most iconic features of the Icelandic volcanic landscape, the colourful geothermal area of Seltún, where you can see up close the boiling mud pools and steaming hot springs of an active volcanic area.
Next up is the youngest volcano in Iceland, Fagradalsfjall Volcano and its surrounding lava fields. The hike up to the newly formed craters takes ca 40 minutes, where you will be able to explore the beautiful aftermath of the recent volcanic eruption.
After the volcano hike, you stop by the bridge between continents, the small footbridge over a major fissure between the Eurasian and North American tectonic plates.
Finally, on your way home, you will stop by the largest mud pool in Iceland, Gunnuhver, where you can feel the ground shake from the enormous power released from the boiling water and steam released.
Don't miss out on this once in a lifetime experience and explore the steaming lava fields of Geldingadalur.
