The Backroad to Landmannalaugar

Enjoy the extreme highland landscape filled with glaciers, black lava and hot springs!
The extended section of the Volcanic Trails takes you up to the hills of the exquisite Fjallabak region and to the famous highland oasis Landmannalaugar. Crossing the green mountains reflected in the “Swan lake” we now hit the brightly colored hills of Ljósártungur. We pass by a big “table mountain” into areas of fuming hot springs and boiling mud pools. The trek continues along thick obsidian lava fields entering a more active geothermal area of even more hot springs, before arriving into the extremely bright colors of Landmannalaugar, one of the best-known parts of the Icelandic highlands. Colorful hills, stunning gullies characterize and predominant geothermal activity this part of the trek.

The perfect tour for those looking for a short hike in the Icelandic Highlands!

See video from the Volcanic Trails Part 2, The Backroad to Landmannalaugar, where our guide Sölvi tells you all about the tour.
