MAP & ITINERARY

Day 0

Arrival in Iceland.

Check into your hotel in Reykjavík.

Day 1

Reykjavík – Egilsstaðir – Laugarfell

Early flight to Egilsstaðir (07:30) where you will be picked up at the airport. A scenic drive takes us up to the high plateau north of the mighty Vatnajökull. Todays skiing of about 4 hours gets us to the highland hotel of Laugarfell where we are reunited with our luggage. A good dinner and a natural hot-spring with supposed healing power awaits. If the sky is clear there is hardly a better place in the world to see the northern lights.

17km – 4 hours. Double rooms. Hot-tub.

Day 2

Laugarfell - Snæfellsskáli

This is our adventure day. The destination is the hut of Snæfell. A snowmobile will transport our luggage and the all-important chef ahead of us to the hut.
Following the river Laugará we can view numerous waterfalls as well as the majestic mountains of Snæfell and Herðubreið (the queen of Icelandic mountains). This is reindeer country and with a little luck we might see them. We will arrive in the warm hut ready for good food and a adventures evening in this remote place.

18 – 22km – 6 hours. Cozy mountain hut.

Day 3

Snæfellsskáli Hut - Eyjabakkar - Laugarfell Highland Hotel

After our little hut adventure, we head back to the comfort of the Laugarfell highland hotel. With all the wonders of Iceland the wide-open spaces are probably what is most different for most guests. And this day has plenty of that with views of the great Vatnajökull Ice Cap, over the rhyolite areas of Lónsöræfi and the vast floodplains of Eyjabakkar, were reindeer and gees flock to raiser there young.
It´s a long day in distance, but mostly down hill so time to fly on those skis.

28 km. Double rooms. Hot tub.

Day 4

Laugarfell - Óbyggðarsetrið (Wilderness Center)

This is the last day of skiing and the easiest one. Now the view changes as we reach the edge of the highland where rivers have carved deep valleys and canyons and waterfalls drop of steep cliffs. Our place for tonight is the Wilderness Center, best described as a sleep in museum with modern comforts including the authentic bath-house with a sauna and hot springs and a 3 course meal worthy of our last evening.

15 – 18 km, double rooms in the Wilderness Center (www.wildrness.is).

Wilderness Center - Egilsstaðir Airport - Reykjavík Airport

After breakfast we say farewell to the eastern part of Iceland and fly back to Reykjavík.
