Adventurer of the Week: Marcus Clears His Head with Ice

Welcome to our “Adventurer of the Week” series! Each week we will feature individuals that were inspired to make every moment an experience in Iceland by going out on epic tours with us that allowed them to interact with nature.

This week's installment of our "Adventurer of the Week" series tells the story of Marcus who came to iceland to clear his head, and ended up with the crazy idea that Iceland could be his next home. Actually, that’s not so crazy honestly, it’s a pretty good idea, and it obviously means that he had a wonderful time!

What motivated you to visit Iceland?

My wife and I came to Iceland last year and always said we’d come back. I needed some me time so I came back to Iceland to reflect on recent events.

As well as that, I am a keen photographer and Iceland has some of the most diverse and dramatic scenery to photograph. I was also fortunate enough to capture the Northern lights.

How long was your stay? Did you travel solo or with a group?

I stayed for a week. Traveling on my own but met some really nice people. Both locals and tourists.

Which tour did you take and why did you choose it?

The tour I chose was the Glacial Walk tour form Sólheimajökull. I’m a keen walker so I couldn’t miss the opportunity to walk on a glacier plus the views were fantastic.

My guide for the walk was Mike. He was very enthusiastic, full of good information, facts and tidbits about Iceland

What is one thing you will always remember about your tour?

The fantastic scenery, plus the weather gods were kind to us. We got a bit of hail on the way up and down. Whilst on the glacier though we had good weather, we even had some sun.

If you had more time in Iceland, what else would you like to see and do?

I would like to visit the Westfjords or the North of Iceland, I would like to have gone snorkeling at Þingvellir National Park between the continental plates. Definitely on the list for next visit.

What tips do you have for people who want to visit Iceland?

Iceland is expensive so be prepared for the prices. Especially food and drink but having said that the food I’ve had on both visits has been exceptional.

I’d also say pack the correct clothing. Weather in Iceland can change suddenly and you see so many tourists looking cold and wet wearing inappropriate clothing. Wear layers and have a decent pair of boots if going off on tours

What adventure are you off to next? What is your next dream adventure?

Looking to go to Romania with my parents at some point but I’m also looking to have a small career break and come back to Iceland for a couple of months with the prospect of relocating to Reykjavik next year.

Marcus’ adventure is only one of the many features that make for an unforgettable experience. Book your tour and join us for an excursion that is guaranteed to make memories that last a lifetime.
